    S2C Announces 4th Generation Rapid SoC Prototyping Solution

    S2C announces the release of its fourth-generation rapid SoC prototyping tool, S4 TAI Logic Module, based on Altera's 40-nm Stratix® IV field-programmable-gate-array (FPGA).

    Equipped with two Stratix IV EP4SE820 FPGAs, each featuring 820K logic elements (LEs), the Dual S4 TAI Logic Module supplies up to 30 million ASIC gates of capacity and provides 1,286 external I/O connections.  Multiple TAI Logic Modules can be stacked or mounted on a interconnect mother board to meet even larger gate count needs.

    The Trend of Integrating WiFi into a SoC

    WiFi is everywhere, computer, netbook, smart phone, digital TV etc. Many of today’s solutions use an external WiFi chip. But to make the SoC more competitive, providers should consider integrating the WiFi function into the chip. The embedded solution consumes smaller PCB board area, leads to lower BOM cost, and reduces reliance on the WiFi chip providers.  At S2C, we are seeing the trend of integration.

    S2C partners Ittiam and Cosmic Circuits to offer a complete WiFi IP solution. Now chip designers have the IP to integrate the WiFi function. The WiFi solution includes the AFE (Analog Front-End), Baseband and upper level MAC controller. Having been proven in real chips, this is the world most mature and complete WiFi IP solution.

    The AFE, developed by Cosmic Circuits, is delivered as GDSII, available in 90nm, 65nm, 55nm and 40nm technology nodes. Its knowledge and experience in the analog design area assure designers’ success of using the AFE core.

    The baseband and MAC controller are from Ittiam. The baseband supports IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n(up to 4x4 MIMO), and the MAC part supports 802.11 a/b/g/i/e/n standards. The baseband is designed in RTL, while MAC controller is a combination of RTL and C code software. The cores have been licensed to over 10 customers around the world.     The Third Annual SoCIP Show was a Major Success

    The annual SoC IP Symposium is China’s premier show to feature the latest technology and product information for the SoC design community. This year’s show, which was held in Shanghai and Beijing in June, attracted over 300 qualified attendees and 14 exhibitors. The show is organized by S2C, a leading rapid SoC prototyping company, headquartered in San Jose, CA with development and support centers in Shanghai and Beijing.

    This one day show allows for attendee interaction with the IP and design service vendors in both question and answer sessions and vendor-attendee interaction at the exhibit portion of the show. Attendees have the opportunity to share their design specifications and challenges and explore solutions with the vendors. S2C, as the organizer, thanks all the exhibitors, and media for their participation in making SoCIP2010 a valuable resource for the SoC design community.

    EDA Veteran Steve Pollock Named S2C VP of Marketing and Business Development

    S2C Inc., a leading supplier of rapid SoC prototyping tools in Asia has hired Steve Pollock as VP of Marketing and Business Development. Steve will focus on expanding S2C’s world-wide market presence and build additional relationships with EDA, IP, and Design Services vendors.

    Steve has a rich IC design and EDA marketing background. Steve started his career as custom chip designer at Texas Instruments. After his successful chip design career, Steve moved into high technology marketing, first in the semiconductor industry and later in the EDA industry. Prior to joining S2C, Steve was an independent marketing and sales consultant with a primary focus on launching emerging companies. His EDA clients included: Anasift, Beach Software, Cadence Design Systems, IC Manage, JEDA Technologies, S2C, and VCX Software. His consumer electronics clients included Adaptive Sound Technologies and HiBox.
